At 2,568 meters in height, Mount Asama is one of the most renowned active volcanoes even on a global scale. The beautiful form of Mount Asama with its flowing volcanic plume has been treasured by people throughout the years as a symbol of mountain spiritualism. The dynamic and majestic panorama formed by this active volcano continues to attract many mountain hikers through all four seasons as one of the most famous one hundred mountains of Japan. The abundant nature of the mountains connected to Mount Asama is designated as national parkland.

Asama 2000 Park Ski Resort opens up in early December, before other regions. Spring skiing is also available until the end of March. Takamine Kogen is blessed with a high rate of good weather, and on a clear day you can see a panoramic stretch of the Yatsugatake Mountains, Southern Alps, Northern Alps, and far away mountains. Top Japanese skiers train on this slope.
